Corporate Asset Management Division
“To manage property assets and the use of premises to
ensure that they fully support the effective and efficient delivery
of services”.
Northumberland County Council recognises the importance of the
strategic management of its property assets. Property must be used
primarily to enable the most efficient provision of services
together with the achievement of strategic objectives, and this
should be done in the most economical manner.
The key role that asset management planning performs in driving
forward the achievement of the Councils ambitions for improvements
in service delivery is recognised and given the highest corporate
importance.
The principal aim of Asset Management Planning is to ensure that
the opportunity cost of financial resources tied up in land and
buildings is minimised, and that capital and revenue expenditure on
the portfolio is directed efficiently and effectively to provide
value for money in service improvement. A robust Asset Management
Plan, subject to continuous review, is a tool that can assist the
pursuit of the above aim by:
- Helping to prioritise decisions on spending.
- Ensuring property decisions are consistent with Service
requirements.
- Identifying opportunities for innovation.
- Provide a context for evaluating capital projects.
- Provide a basis for developing public private
partnerships.
- Identifying assets suitable for investment or disposal.
- Identifying opportunities to increase income generation or
reduce expenditure.
