Promoting Positive Mental Health in Northumberland
02 Sep 2024
On the run up to World Suicide Prevention Day and World Mental Health Day, Northumberland County Council is running 5 weeks of action to help everyone look after their mental health.
The council’s Public Health Team is visiting various locations across the county, to promote positive mental health and to give people the chance to talk about mental health in general, how to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.
Between 11.30am-1.30pm on the following dates, the team will be at:
- 10 September - The Bothy, 14 Laburnum Terrace, Ashington, Northumberland NE63 0XX
- 17 September - The Queen's Hall Art Centre, Beaumont St, Hexham NE46 3LS
- 4 October - The William Elder Building, 56-58 Castlegate, Berwick Upon Tweed, TD15 1JT
- 10 October - Cramlington Warm Space, within Manor Walks Shopping Centre, NE23 6UT
Councillor Wendy Pattison, Northumberland County Council’s mental health champion, said: “In today’s fast-paced world, maintaining good mental health is more important than ever. The five weeks of action give us a great opportunity to think about how we can look after our own mental health.
“Our Health Trainers are ready to offer help and healthy lifestyle support, with some great tips and advice to help us all live happier, healthier lives and cope with life’s challenges.”
Evidence suggests there are 5 ways you can take to improve your mental health and wellbeing. Trying these things could help you feel more positive and able to get the most out of life:
- Connect with other people
- Be physically active
- Learn new skills
- Give to others - acts of giving and kindness
- Pay attention to the present moment (mindfulness)
