Council shares back to school guide for families in Northumberland

Northumberland's Back to School Guide for Families

As pupils prepare to start the new term, we've put together a guide to support available for families.

While many children will be looking forward to being back with their friends, starting or returning to school can also be an anxious time for some.

The council has put together a guide to the support available for families, children and young people – from the all-important term dates – to help with the cost-of-living such as support with uniform, free school meals and transport, to advice on support for children with additional needs and managing health and wellbeing.

Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, Cabinet Member for Inspiring Young People said: “We are looking forward to welcoming pupils back to school after the summer break.

“However, we know that getting back into school for some children and for some families can be a worrying time.

But please remember – there are lots of people here at the council and with our partners who are here to support you.”

David Street, the Council’s Director of Education, SEND and Skills, added: “We have the highest aspirations for all our children and young people and want them to thrive and reach their full potential.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you once again to all our brilliant school staff for all your hard work and to our parents and carers too, it really is a whole team effort, and I wish everyone a great start to this new academic year.”
