Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office
The Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office hold
records in relation to the geographical area from
Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north to Ellingham in the south and
across to The Cheviots in the west.
Many of the well used family history sources
are available to view on microfilm only. It is therefore essential
to reserve a microfilm reader in advance of a proposed visit.
Bookings can be made for two hour sessions only due to the high
demand for this service. Our guide Family
History Resources in the Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office
describes the range of family history sources available there. Our
Electronic Catalogue includes references and descriptions of
some of the records held at the Berwick-upon-Tweed office.
There is some duplication of holdings between
the Woodhorn and Berwick-upon-Tweed offices and as a consequence
some sources are available to view at both. For example, original
Anglican parish registers are held at Woodhorn and microfilm copies
of those that relate to north Northumberland are held at Berwick.
We therefore recommend that researchers with an interest in sources
that relate to north Northumberland consult staff at either
Berwick-upon-Tweed or Woodhorn who will be pleased to advise upon
the location of records.
There is no visitor registration system in
place at our Berwick-upon-Tweed office.
