‘Ready, Set, Explore’ returns

This Love Parks Week (25 July to 3 August), Northumberland County Council is encouraging people of all ages to reconnect with nature and enjoy the wealth of outdoor spaces the county has to offer through its Ready, Set, Explore campaign.

Northumberland is home to some of the UK’s most beautiful and accessible green spaces — much of it within easy reach by foot, bike, bus, or train.
And earlier this month, 14 Northumberland parks were awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award, recognising them as some of the best parks in the country.

As part of Love Parks Week, the County Council will be highlighting what parks mean to the community, as well as celebrating the great work carried out by volunteers and staff who maintain and enhance these valuable green spaces.

Now in its second year, Ready, Set, Explore aims to inspire residents to discover new places, enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of the outdoors, and make the most of their local area this summer.

Councillor John Riddle, Cabinet Member for Environment and Rural, said:
“Love Parks Week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the fantastic green spaces that make Northumberland so special.
Through Ready, Set, Explore, we’re encouraging everyone to spend more time outdoors, whether it’s a walk in a local park, a picnic with the family, or joining a Saturday morning Parkrun.
With the summer holidays in full swing, it’s also a great way to get kids out and about, enjoying fresh air and fun activities without spending a fortune.  Our parks are for everyone, and they’re ready when you are.”
