Council teams respond to Storm Floris
04 Aug 2025
Teams from the county council have been working throughout the day in driving winds and rain to deal with the impact caused by Storm Floris
Nationally, the Met Office issued Amber and Yellow weather warnings on Monday with winds bringing gusts of over 1000 mph in some parts of the country.
The public are advised to avoid travelling if they possibly can and if they have to travel, to reduce speed and be vigilant for fallen branches and debris on the road network.
The County Council’s highways staff, tree teams and contractors have been on hand to respond to any issues affecting the road network and have dealt with numerous calls.
Fallen trees blocking roads should be reported to 0345 600 6400 or via Fix My Street on the home page of the county council’s website www.northumberland.gov.uk.
Many of the Household Waste Recovery Centres (tips) and Bolam Lake Country Park and Plessey Woods Country Park were closed as a precaution. Once the winds die down countryside teams will be ensuring there is no danger to the public before country parks are re-opened.
No reports have been received of flooding to homes.
Clean-up activity to remove debris from paths and roads is underway and will ramp up tomorrow morning as winds subside.
