Northumberland’s students celebrate GCSE success

Students across the county proudly celebrated their achievements today as they collected their GCSE results, with the vast majority going on to their first-choice destination.

Councillor Guy Renner-Thompson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Inspiring Young People, said: “Well done to all the students receiving their results today, I hope you are all very proud of what you have achieved.

“We’ve been hearing some fantastic individual successes – both in terms of students receiving the top grades, but also of those who have overcome challenges in their lives to achieve the success they deserve.

“We have fantastic schools, with brilliant staff and supportive parents and carers. We are proud to be investing record amounts in new and refurbished facilities to make sure they get better and better.

“I wish all our students the best in their next steps – whether that’s sixth form, college, apprenticeships or employment.”

Several students shared their thoughts and experiences after receiving their GCSE results, reflecting on both their achievements and the effort that went into preparing for the exams.

Leon celebrated his success, saying “I’ve just passed my GCSE’s. I was a bit nervous to be honest with you, but that’s natural, everyone gets the butterflies. I put so much time into revising. I put in all the hours, and I just did my best, and that’s all you can do.”

Owen was equally proud of his progress, explaining, “I was predicted 4s and 5s and I’m now getting 6s in some of my exams, and high 5s as well, so I’m really pleased with myself.”

Offering advice to students preparing for next year, James encouraged, “don’t panic when you’re doing your exams, just work hard and then you’ll get the grades that you want.”

Associate Executive Principal at Northern Education Trust Blyth Academy, Martin Wood, shared “Our year elevens have done phenomenally well this year. The second year in a row with record breaking GCSE results for our children. It means the children can go on and get the life chances that they deserve.”

“A really big thank you to the community, families that support and trust us, the children, who when we talk about how important the standards and expectations are, trust us and believe us, and finally to the staff, both teaching and support staff, they’ve done a phenomenal job. We are unbelievably happy, and very proud of our children.”
