Plans are being put forward for a new temporary carpark in Berwick.
A planning application has been submitted by the County Council to demolish an old timber building and garage on the south side of Berwick Old Bridge at Tweed Dock to create a new temporary 41-space car park.
The new facility is needed to compensate for the loss of spaces in the town centre when work gets underway on work to transform the Maltings venue in Eastern Lane.
The new venue will be an iconic multi-purpose cultural and entertainment complex and deliver a major multi-million pound transformation of the current venue and its impact on the town and surrounding area.
A report on the application for the temporary facility states: “The car park will be accessed via the existing entrance off McGregor Court private road, increasing the number of parking spaces to provide greater vehicle parking capacity for services in and around both Berwick and Tweedmouth.
“Alternative solutions were investigated however the cost was considerably greater, resulting in the current solution being proposed.”
As with all town centre car parks in Northumberland, the temporary carpark will be free to use.
