Garden waste kerbside collections 2021

The council’s garden waste kerbside collection service for 2021 will resume in March.

The service offers residents the opportunity to receive 20 garden waste collections over the main growing season running from early March through to late November, early December this year.

Customers of Northumberland’s 2020 garden waste collection service will soon be invited to re-subscribe to this year's service via email or letter.

Returning and new customers can renew or register for the 2021 service via the council’s website. Previous customers will be asked to quote their garden waste reference number when re-subscribing.

The easiest way to pay for a yearly subscription is through the online form.

In recognition of the reduced administration costs associated with processing online payments, and to incentivise more residents to use this method, those customers who pay online will be automatically entered into a monthly draw, giving them the opportunity to win a full refund on their 2021 subscription.

Payment can also be made by calling the council’s Contact Centre on 0345 600 6400. Payments cannot be made in person due to the Covid-19 restrictions currently in place.

Customers will also be sent a 2021 garden waste sticker to display on the top of their bin lid as proof of payment. The sticker can take up to seven days to arrive.

Cllr Glen Sanderson, leader of the council and cabinet member for waste and recycling, said: “Our kerbside collection service is a convenient and easy way to dispose of your waste throughout the spring and summer seasons, when we typically produce more garden waste.

"I'm pleased to announce that residents can access this season’s service for the price of £43 - the same as last year.

“Customers taking advantage of kerbside collections can save time and fuel with fewer trips to the tip needed. Reducing non-essential travel is more important than ever as Covid restrictions remain in place.

“I’d like to welcome back our returning customers and encourage residents to sign-up for the scheme.”
