Bedlington Station Library Update

Bedlington Station Library remains closed following structural damage to the building.

A water leak has caused damage to the roof and flooring leading to the library remaining closed, despite Covid-restrictions allowing libraries to reopen from this week.

A series of risk assessments will be carried out to help Northumberland County Council's Property Services determine the condition of the building.

In the meantime, the mobile library will be making regular visits to the site and customers are also advised they can visit any library in the area, including the nearby Bedlington Library, which has reopened for Time Limited Browsing and PC access.  Members can also access the digital library via www.mylibrary.co.uk

Nigel Walsh, Head of Cultural Services at Northumberland County Council said: “We have been made aware of a water leak at Bedlington Station library which has caused damage to the roof and flooring at the site.

“We are now undertaking full health and safety and risk assessments of the building to ascertain the extent of the damage. Depending on the damage we may need to consider alternative options for the delivery of the service but we want to reassure residents there are no plans to withdraw library services from Bedlington Station.

“Our mobile library will be visiting the site and we would also encourage residents to use Bedlington Library which is less than two miles away, as well as our digital library.”
