Northumberland's accommodation service oversees the accommodation and support options for young people leaving care and homeless 16/17 year olds.
The service is responsible for ensuring that young people are provided with tailored advice and guidance about their accommodation options. We also look at the support options available to young people as they transition towards independence. The service oversees referrals to Accommodation providers. We liaise with providers to ensure that young people have access to the most suitable and appropriate accommodation in a timely fashion.
The accommodation service supports young people in several ways. We offer:
The accommodation support workers attend care team meetings and look-after reviews to discuss potential accommodation and support options available, and most suitable, for the young person they are working alongside.
Places for People – offer semi-independent accommodation for young people between the ages of 16-25. They offer self-contained flats within a number of locations in the Blyth area with varying levels of support available to young people; through key working sessions. Staff are based on site 24hrs a day.
YMCA North Shields – offer semi–independent accommodation for young people between the ages of 16-25; with self-contained flats within staffed building in North Shields. Staff will provide support to young people through keyworking sessions. Staff are on site 24hrs a day.
NAS Supported Tenancies/Trainer Flat Provision – Northumberland Adolescent Service currently have a number of fully furnished properties that can be used as supported tenancies for young people aged 16+ or can act as a trainer flat preparing a young person for independence.
