Social Work Week shines a spotlight on the life-changing impact of social care
17 Mar 2025
This week we’re celebrating Social Work Week and saying thank you to all our social workers for the life-changing difference they make every day.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your hard work, drive and tenacity”, “Thank you for everything you did for my dad and for us as a family” and “Keep doing what you’re doing, you are mint”. These are just a few of the heartfelt messages shared to thank Northumberland’s social workers for their dedication, compassion and care.
Northumberland employs more than 300 social workers across children’s and adult services in our communities, schools and hospitals.
Social Work Week is a chance to shine a light on the profession and the sheer diversity of roles available within social work.
If you are interested in joining our social care teams in Northumberland there are a range of options available, including apprenticeships.
Northumberland is recognised nationally for the support it offers to its newly qualified social workers during their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE). The council’s innovative Social Work Academies give newly qualified social workers additional support to develop their knowledge and skills with a high level of supervision.
The council also continues to develop new routes into social work. Step Up To Social Work is a 14-month, full-time training programme offering talented graduates and career changers the chance to become the next generation of child and family social workers.
