Voter details letters issued ahead of May 2025 Elections
31 Jan 2025
Households across Northumberland will shortly receive letters encouraging them to confirm details of electors living at their address.
Letters will start to land on doormats next week listing those eligible to vote at the address; and reminding those who are not detailed to register so they can have their say at upcoming elections in May.
This year, there have been boundary changes to Northumberland’s county divisions, which may affect where residents vote.
The Household Notification Letter will provide important details, including what polling station residents are required to vote at.
It will also provide information for those who currently vote by postal or proxy, along with instructions on how to apply if they wish to use these methods for the upcoming election.
A spokesperson for Northumberland County Council said: “Although 1 May might seem some time away, now is the time to check your registration details, especially with the boundary changes and polling station updates.
“It’s important to ensure that you are registered and know where to vote. This is also a good opportunity to remind everyone that voter ID will be required at polling stations – so please make sure you have photo ID ready or apply for a Voter Authentication Certificate if you need one.
“We’re also taking this opportunity to remind everyone that voter ID is now in place; so anyone who votes at a polling station will need to bring photo ID, or a Voter Authentication Certificate.”
Recent legislation now requires all voters to present photo ID at the polling station. Those without valid photo ID can apply for a Voter Authentication Certificate (VAC). Voters are encouraged to check if they have acceptable ID now to avoid any last-minute issues.
