Northumberland County Council is highlighting its commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB) and making local communities safer by joining the national awareness week, which runs from November 18-24.
This year’s campaign encourages individuals and communities to take a stand against ASB, highlighting the importance of reporting incidents and the steps that can be taken to address the issue.
Anti-social behaviour is behaviour that is likely to cause alarm, harassment or distress. It can be personal such as violence or threatening behaviour. It can be community based, for example street drinking, noise nuisance, vehicle disorder, or it can be environmental, including fly-tipping and graffiti.
The Council is working with a range of partners including Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, Northumbria Police, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria, housing organisations and transport providers.
Key events during the week include drop-in events and roadshows, student safety sessions and surprise visits to thank partners for their work. More details of all the activities can be found at https://nland.uk/ASBawareness
Northumberland County Councilor, Gordon Stewart, cabinet member for Looking After Our Communities said: “Northumberland is a beautiful county and we want to ensure the quality of life here is continually improved.
“Along with our partners, we are committed to supporting victims of ASB and recognise that repeated incidents can have a detrimental impact on residents’ everyday lives.
“We have dedicated teams working in partnership to resolve incidents of ASB and to ensure that people living in Northumberland can enjoy their homes and communities free from this behaviour.
“We hope that by raising awareness of what ASB is, engaging with communities and explaining the different routes on how to report it, we can work together to make our communities even safer.”
Organised by Resolve, ASB Awareness Week is being backed by the Home Office, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Local Government Association,National Police Chiefs’Council and the National Fire Chiefs’Council.
The overarching theme and hashtag for the week is #MakingCommunitiesSafer
