Northumberland County Council is celebrating the difference volunteers make to their organisation and thanking them for all their time and dedication during this year’s 40th anniversary of Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 3-9 June 2024.
To mark the occasion, the Council along with partners, will be holding community and volunteer pop-up events:
- 4 June, 10am-2pm Alnwick Community Hub, 30 Lindisfarne Road, Alnwick, NE66 1AU
- 4 June, 9:30am-1pm, Work Smart, Live Well, Cramlington Community Hub (next to Concordia)
- 6 June, from 4pm, Blyth Beach D-day celebrations, Blyth Links
- 7 June, 10am-2pm Druridge Bay Country Park
At the events, the Council will be joined by local partners, showcasing the range of volunteering opportunities on offer, encouraging residents to try volunteering for the first time and helping people find out how, through volunteering, they can make a difference to a cause they are passionate about.
Councillor John Beynon, Chair of the Council, said: “The hard work and dedication of the voluntary and community sector across Northumberland is something we’re immensely proud of.
“We’re privileged to have dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers in Northumberland, and we are truly grateful for their continued support and the difference they make to our county."
The Council has over 2,000 registered volunteers who support services in a variety of ways both formally and informally from green dog walkers and litter pickers to asylum seekers and refugee befrienders and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service Cadets.
