Blyth seafront improvement works well underway

Work is well underway to improve Blyth seafront ahead of the summer season and D-Day commemoration events this June.

From the bandstand to the bins, the area is being refurbished and worn items replaced.

The bandstand is undergoing concrete repairs and repainting.

The promenade seating is being replaced and there's  improvements to the play area, along with bollard replacement.

The wooden litter bin housings will also be removed and new bins provided in a bid to reduce litter issues associated with seagulls and make them easier to keep clean.

Cabinet member for Looking After Our Environment Councillor Colin Horncastle, said: “Blyth beachfront is a key tourist attraction in the county as well as being extremely popular with local residents.

“Like many structures along the coast, Blyth Promenade is on the front line of everything the weather can throw at it, and I’m pleased it’s getting some TLC  ahead of the main tourism season and our D Day events planned for this summer.”

“The storms this year have also significantly lowered the sand levels on the beach creating a safety issue for promenade users due to the increased fall from height onto the beach.

“While we have some temporary barriers in place currently to alert users to the risk, we are planning to replace these and install permanent railings in the coming months so that everyone is able to safely enjoy the promenade for many years to come.”

Ward County Councillor Daniel Carr said: “ I’m extremely pleased to see all of the ongoing work  around the beach area  and I’m sure the positive impact of these improvements will undoubtedly be felt across Blyth, promoting tourism, economic growth, and community pride.”
