Council funding helps community groups celebrate King’s Coronation

Communities across Northumberland are gearing up to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty, King Charles III this weekend – with a little help from the County Council.

To help communities mark the occasion, the Council set up a Coronation Community Fund of £50,000 to encourage non-profit community and voluntary groups, schools, local charities, parish and town councils and churches within Northumberland to host events and activities for people to enjoy.

Grants of up to £500 have been distributed to 111 groups in the county to enable a wide range of activities to take place over this historic weekend such as screening events, fun fairs, picnics, litter picks, crafting, barbeques, quizzes, dances and planting events.

Councillor Jeff Watson, Cabinet Member for Healthy Lives at Northumberland County Council said: “It’s fantastic to see the enthusiasm from so many community groups in the county who want to celebrate the King’s Coronation this weekend.

“These groups are integral in Northumberland and do so much for our residents, it feels great to give them something back so that they can bring people together to mark this historical occasion in such a creative and positive way.”
