Support continues for families this summer

Support continues for families this summer

Families in Northumberland will continue to be supported during the school summer holidays.

An action-packed programme of activities is making a return for the six-week break as part of a government scheme to help ensure our children and young people have a summer of fun, adventure and healthy food.

And this summer it’s even bigger and better – with more community partners getting on board.

Northumberland Holiday Provision offers eligible children and young people the chance to make friends, learn new skills and create memories.

There are holiday camps, activities and trips out for families, including tickets to Seaton Delaval Hall, the cinema, activity centres and passes for local leisure centres.

There are also some fantastic community days planned in parks and beaches over the six-week holiday period too. Those taking part will also receive a healthy meal included on the day.

The programme is managed by Leading Link on behalf of the council and funded with support from the Department for Education (DfE) Holiday Activity Fund (HAF) and The National Lottery Fund, through North East Child Poverty Trust.

Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Inspiring Young People, said: “We want all our children and young people to enjoy their summer and have fun with their family and friends.

I am so proud of how the county has really come together to provide support where it’s needed and offer these enriching activities over the holidays where young people can meet friends, learn new skills, enjoy delicious meals and make memories.

“We also have our brilliant libraries, leisure centres, parks, community and Family Hubs – all offering activities for everyone to enjoy.”

Over 10,000 children and young people who receive free school meals during term time will also receive £100 in vouchers from the DWP Household Support Fund that can be used towards food, fuel and other essentials including school uniform.

Eligible families will have been communicated with via their school.

Bookings for the 2023 Summer Holidays will be open until July 21st at 2pm.
