An open day is taking place at The Lindisfarne Centre

Open Day to showcase Alnwick’s revamped Lindisfarne Centre

The revamped Lindisfarne Centre in Alnwick is hosting an open day this Thursday (July 6).

The learning and community campus, on the site of the former Lindisfarne School, reopened in April after a £2m refurbishment, funded by Northumberland County Council.

The project brings a range of education and community services together under one roof at the heart of the community.

Councillor Guy Renner-Thompson is the council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for Inspiring Young People.

He said: “It is fantastic to see this thriving learning and community campus in action.

“Having all these different services under one roof means more people can access the support they need as close to their homes as possible.”

The centre is home to Northumberland Skills, the council's learning and skills service.

Northumberland Skills offers classes for school leavers, adults and learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Courses include maths, English, art, IT, childcare and construction

The new on-site café is open to all and is proving a hit with residents. Two community spaces to hire are also being booked up by local groups.

 Other services include:

  • Northumberland County Council Customer Services

  • Northumberland Communities Together

  • Alnwick Town Council

  • Alnwick Food Bank

  • Citizens Advice

Cllr Gordon Castle is a Northumberland County Councillor and Alnwick Town Councillor.

He said: “This is a major addition to Alnwick’s community life.

"These excellent facilities bring together various groups with a common theme.

“Rooms are also available for hire at a reasonable price.”

Cllr Martin Swinbank, is also a Northumberland County Councillor and Alnwick Town Councillor.

He said: “The new community campus is bringing new life to this old building.

"Its low carbon refurbishment is fit for the future.

“Please do call in to see the range of council and other community support organisations who are here to welcome you.

“The new café, which is open to the public, is becoming a meeting place for local residents and proving to be a great success too."

The council is now progressing with plans for the future of the site.

The open day will take place on Thursday July 6th from 12.30pm to 4pm.

The address is: The Lindisfarne Centre, Lindisfarne Road, Alnwick, NE66 1AX.
