Two people who have dedicated their careers to working with children, which saw them recognised in the King’s Honours List, have been praised by the council.
Susan Ghulam, who works for the council, is the Registered Manager of Barndale Short Break - which offers families throughout Northumberland respite care and support for children with additional needs.
Susan was awarded an MBE for services to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Simon Taylor, Chief Executive Officer with the Three Rivers Learning Trust, which runs a number of schools in the county, received an OBE for services to education.
Councillor Guy Renner-Thompson, the council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “First and foremost I’d like to offer our congratulations to Susan and Simon for their well-deserved honours.
“We are so proud of everyone involved in education and children’s services in Northumberland – their commitment and dedication to young people is second to none.
“The recognition for Susan and Simon is a reflection of everything that is good about the work taking place every day in this county.”
