Children excited running towards school

National Primary Offer Day - 98% get top choice school place

The vast majority of families in Northumberland have once again gained their top choice of first or primary school on National Offers Day for September 2023.

This year, the council received 2,640 applications compared to 2,790 last year.

First preference of place went to 98% of those who applied on time, compared to 97.33% last year

Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, Cabinet member with responsibilities for Children’s Services, said: “This is more great news for Northumberland families.

Our teams work really hard throughout the year to ensure that our young people can receive the best education for them as close to their homes as possible.

The number of schools rated Good or Outstanding is also at a record high of 92% - higher than the national average of 88% and a significant improvement from five years ago when the figure was 76%.

We’re also investing in improving school facilities across the county.

Starting primary school for the first time is a special milestone for every child and we look forward to welcoming the children to their new schools in September.”
