Celebrate the Kings Coronation with Northumberland's Libraries

Northumberland Libraries is planning special community celebrations to mark the coronation of King Charles III.

On Saturday 6 May, hub libraries at Berwick, Blyth, Cramlington, Hexham and Morpeth will all be live streaming the Coronation ceremony for their local communities to come together to celebrate in a warm and safe space.

In the run up to Coronation weekend, and on the day itself, there will be children's craft activities ranging from crown making, colour-in bunting and activity sheets, and special story time and seed planting sessions in selected libraries.

Story times will feature the book ‘In Our Hands’ by Newcastle-based author and illustrator, Lucy Farfort, which has been chosen by Northumberland Libraries to mark the Coronation for reflecting the themes of diversity, youth and sustainability.

Copies of ‘In Our Hands’ have been purchased for each library in the county and Lucy will be visiting the new library facility in Morpeth Sports & Leisure Centre on Friday 5 May at 10am for a story and activity session with Year 1 children from St Roberts First School Morpeth.

Cllr Jeff Watson, Cabinet Member for Healthy Lives at Northumberland County Council said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people across the county to come together with their local communities to celebrate this historical occasion together.

“There are so many fun activities planned for all the family and I would encourage everyone to get involved.”

In partnership with Northumberland Archives, hub libraries will be mounting special displays of photographs, press-cuttings and other memorabilia highlighting the county’s links to previous Royal Coronations.
