Council to update on Blyth's regeneration plans

On Thursday, 28th July from 11am, the County Council will be stationed in The Keel Row Shopping Centre in Blyth to update businesses and residents on the £70m regeneration scheme, Energising Blyth.

The Blyth Town Forum Showcase event will update the public on progress to date in Blyth Town Centre and information will be also available on The Northumberland Line, Blyth Relief Road, Blyth’s Neighbourhood Plan and what support is available to businesses in the area. The day also provides the public with an opportunity to share their views on the work to date and future proposed plans.

Councillor Wojciech Ploszaj, Cabinet Member for Business, explained: “The regeneration of Blyth is well underway and you can see improvements already with the likes of Bowes Street and Church Street improvements.

“The Blyth Town Forum Showcase will outline what else we have planned for the centre including a proposed Culture Hub and Cultural Placemaking Programme and we would like to update as many people on our plans and get their opinions on varying capital projects that are in the pipeline.

“The developments happening in the town will revitalise Blyth on a huge scale making it the epicentre of clean energy and paving the way for young people to get into STEM and then into the industry.

“By 2026 it will look and feel like a completely different town brimming with energy and cultural activities and attracting visitors and businesses from far and wide.”

As well as updating the public and seeking views on Energising Blyth, there will also be entertainment on the Market Place with The Big Northumberland Gear Change Pop Up Bike Festival taking place from 10am, featuring bike demonstrations and guided rides.

Blyth Town Council, Mayor Warren Taylor, said: “This is such an exciting time for Blyth and we can’t wait to see what the public thinks of the new plans for the likes of the Culture Hub and Energy Central Campus.

“I encourage as many people to visit The Keel Row Shopping Centre to not only be updated on what is happening in and around the town centre but also to provide suggestions on upcoming projects and events.”

The Blyth Town Forum Showcase event will take place at The Keel Row Shopping Centre from 11am until 7pm on Thursday, 28th July.
