Queen’s Hall exhibitions show Hexham through the ages

Two new and free exhibitions are to be launched on Monday January 31 in Hexham’s Queen's Hall which will show maps and photos of Hexham throughout the ages.

The Gibson Photographic Exhibition is an exhibition featuring over 120 photographs taken by Hexham’s most famous photographer, J P Gibson.
The exhibition features images of Hexham from Victorian times and has been curated by the Hexham High Street Heritage Action Zone team with the invaluable support of Mark Benjamin of the Hexham Local History Society (HLHS)

The Goad Map Exhibition will also open in the Queen’s Hall on Monday 31st January 2022
Sixteen Goad maps, named after Charles E. Goad, the Civil Engineer who created them, will be on display.  They will show the occupancy of the retail units in Hexham between 1971-2014, providing a birds-eye view of a retail area, and individual retail units with their fascia name.
Both exhibitions will run throughout February. They are free to attend and there is no need to book.

A spokesperson for Northumberland County Council said:

The people of Hexham are well known for their sense of community spirit and these particular exhibitions give us the opportunity to celebrate the town's proud and rich heritage.
“The images on display offer a fascinating insight into the town's history and how it has changed in the years gone by.
“I hope the public will go along, especially the younger generations, and take advantage of this great opportunity.”
