New app puts Hexham on the map

A new heritage trail will give residents and visitors to Hexham the chance to find out all about the town's rich history in a thoroughly modern way - through downloading a mobile app.

The Hexham High Street Heritage Action Zone scheme has funded the development of the Heritage Trail app which leads the user on a fascinating and informative walk around the town centre.

The trail highlights 30 points of interest including many buildings, and the histories of a number of Hexham’s more famous and infamous residents.

Northumberland County Councillor, Richard Wearmouth who sits on the HSHAZ steering group said:
The heritage trail is an amazing opportunity for everyone to find out more about the wonderful history of Hexham.

The project aims to protect, commemorate and celebrate that history and build local pride in where we live, while at the same time showcasing the town's heritage countrywide.”

If you want to know how Peter Shilton, Bobby Moore, Kevin Keegan, Frank Bruno, Bjorn Borg and Steffi Graf are linked to Hexham then download the app and follow the trail.

The Hexham trail is available on Trailtale, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play
An audio description option is also available..

The app has been developed with help from Historic England, Northumberland County Council, Hexham Town Council and the Hexham Town Partnership.
