Firefighters stand down after major fire in Haltwhistle (updates)

Fire service operations have now concluded at the site - although investigation work into the cause of the blaze will continue.
The community are thanked for all their support over the past few days.

Following the earlier fire the incident has now been concluded and fire crews are standing down.
Electricity was restored in the area earlier this afternoon and roads in the town centre are in the process of re-opening.
Residents are thanked for their support and patience during the unavoidable disruption over the course of the day.

Crews are still on scene of the fire at Haltwhistle and are continuing to damp it down

Crews are still on scene of the fire at Haltwhistle which is now under control, although damping down continues.
The fire service is working alongside utility companies to get power restored in the surrounding area as soon as possible and residents are thanked for their patience while this is done.
Roads will continue to be closed in the immediate area for the next few hours.

01/12/22 8AM UPDATE
Firefighters are continuing to tackle a large fire in Haltwhistle which broke out overnight.
 
The alarm was raised around 2am to a fire at Haltwhistle Working Men’s Club on the junction of Bank House and Lanty’s Lonnen. 
 
Six pumps and an aerial ladder attended and although the fire is now under control, fire crews will be on scene for several hours and surrounding roads will remain closed. People should avoid the area. 
 
There are no reports of any casualties amd residents of neighbouring properties were evacuated to a nearby pub for welfare. 
 
Northumberland Fire and Rescue service Group Manager Richard Leighton said: “The building has been severely damaged by fire with a partial collapse of the gable end. 
 
“We’ve been working closely with Northumbria Police and the ultility companies to make the building safe and we will be here for some time to fully extinguish the fire. 
 
“I’d like to thank the local community for their support and understanding while we remain on scene and remind people to avoid the area. A fire investigation is underway to establish the cause of the blaze.”
