Contractors interested in tendering for major works on the new Northumberland Line rail project are being encouraged to take part in a virtual briefing.

As part of the development of the new line which will connect Ashington with central Newcastle, the council is hosting a contractor briefing for the Station Construction Package on Thursday, 25th March at 2pm.

The ambitious scheme is now at the stage where the council will be going live with a tender for appointment of a contractor to a framework contract.

As the project progresses through design conclusion to implementation the framework will cover input into the development of the design and constructability for the six stations, car parks and various bridges between Ashington and Palmersville, in North Tyneside.

Subject to the award of funding it would move to the construction phase in early 2022.

Councillor Richard Wearmouth, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “This is a transformational project both for Northumberland and the wider region and we are seeking high-calibre contractors to take on this critical phase of the infrastructure work.

“With passenger services set to be running on the Northumberland Line within three years it’s crucial we keep up momentum on this work.”
Contractors interested in tendering for this major multi-million pound contract are invited to a briefing on the project which will also provide the opportunity for firms to ask questions on elements of the work.

More information on the tender is currently available at https://procontract.due-north.com and to register for the council’s virtual briefing contractors should go to Ticketsource here.
