Mobile van pilot to offer Covid home testing kits

Covid home testing kits for families will be made available from a mobile van in parts of Northumberland in a new pilot programme for the next two weeks.

The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) have offered a mobile unit for use in the county to improve access to home testing kits for families and support bubbles of school age children.

For the first few days it will be stationed in Cramlington, Ellington and Rothbury between 9am and 3pm each day.

The vehicle will be deployed in the Forum Way carpark at Manor Walks in Cramlington on Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31 March.

It will be at Ellington Welfare Social Centre car park for Thursday 1st and Fri 2nd April.

The vehicle will then be deployed in the Cowhaugh Carpark, Rothbury NE65 7RX on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th April.

More dates and locations will be confirmed soon.

The public will be able to collect home Covid test kits (7 tests per pack). There is no booking required, although you will be asked for your postcode when picking up kits and the vehicle will be remain on site while stocks last. The programme is aimed at families and support bubbles of children in the first instance.

Currently residents in Northumberland can also pick up home testing kits athe DHSC Local Testing sites at Ashington, Blyth, Berwick and Hexham between 2.30pm and 8pm and no appointment is needed.

The mobile van pilot is aimed at those living in more hard-to-reach areas and people who might not easily be able to attend one of the other collection points.
