Mams on the Move outdoor exercise classes

Mams on the Move outdoor exercise classes restart

A popular outdoor exercise class for post natal mums and their babies has restarted in Blyth and Ashington, with social distancing and safety a top priority.

Mams with Prams is run by Active Northumberland and is designed specifically for mums from 6 weeks after birth (or 12 weeks after a caesarean section) and for as long as your little one is happy in their buggy.

There is also a mams only class at Blyth Beach on Thursday evenings between 6-7pm. Mams can come along on their own and exercise, meet other mams and get back to being active. If you do want to bring your baby they are welcome too.

The classes cost just £2 and are a great way to spend some time outdoors, to exercise without the need for childcare, and to meet other new mothers.  You will receive a free T shirt when you attend your first session.

Exercises include safe cardio and toning exercises designed to help you recover and regain fitness after pregnancy and childbirth, all done with social distancing in mind.

Mams with Prams is part of the Mams on the Move initiative, Funded by Sport England and aimed at helping to support new mums to get back into regular exercise and reap the physical and mental health benefits this brings.

Active Northumberland Wellbeing Co-ordinator Jemma Burt said:

“ Many women are unclear about the type and amount of exercise that is appropriate during and after pregnancy, while time and childcare commitments mean that many women don’t prioritise activity for themselves.
“ Mams on the Move is a really friendly group that aims to help support women to build low cost activity into their existing routine, at times convenient to them by breaking down the barriers that prevent them from taking exercise.

“ We’ve had some really positive feedback from the new mums who have taken part. They’ve told us that as well as the exercise, the social element has been crucial as it has enabled them to get out of the house, meet and talk to other mums and share their experiences about the highs and lows of early motherhood.”
