Flags flying at the Scottish border

Council flying the flag for the NHS

Drivers on the A1 between England and Scotland may notice something a little different now when they cross the border.

As well as the Northumberland and union flags, a new standard has been raised - thanking the NHS for their work during the coronavirus pandemic.

The flags are made in the county - and a similar one is also flying at County Hall.

Council Leader Peter Jackson said: “Like the whole country we’re tremendously proud of the work of the NHS and all our other key workers in what is an unprecedented situation.

“We felt it only right that we should recognise their efforts every way we can and now the thousands of drivers who pass through our border with Scotland on the A1 every day can see this flag.”
