Support Northumberland charities this Christmas

Are you looking to support a local charity this Christmas?

Did you know that as well as donating funds or items you can also support charities in Northumberland by playing the Northumberland Lottery?

With almost 100 local charities or not for profit organisations signed up to the initiative it is a great way of raising money for your chosen group.
Since it launched in April this year the lottery has already raised £41,000 for communities across the county and given away £6,500 in prizes.

Tickets for the lottery cost just £1 a week and 60% of each ticket sold goes direct into charities across the county. Players can nominate a charity of their choice with 50p of every £1 ticket going to their specified charity and the remaining 10p is distributed to other local groups.

It’s free and easy for local not-for profit organisations to sign up to the lottery and start raising funds and just 20 ticket sales a week can raise £500 annually.

Wylam (St Oswin’s) Scout Group has only been involved in the lottery since September but is already using the funds raised through the scheme to invest in new equipment

Michele Philp-Wilson, executive committee member and fundraiser for the group said: “Under current circumstances of Covid 19, fundraising for groups such as ours is almost impossible. The Northumberland Lottery has given us the opportunity to continue to raise funds without having to carry out any of the usual activities which involves contact with people.

It was very easy to set up, the team at Northumberland lottery were very helpfulWe targeted parents and families of all our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts but also to the general public within our village through local Facebook page and we have already had a couple of winning tickets!

The money raised is currently helping us to invest in new equipment for Covid friendly outdoor activities such as pioneering poles and staves and going forward the income from the Northumberland Lottery tickets will help us to subsidise activities and camps for the Scout groups, which they have all missed out on in 2020.

Cllr Nick Olivercabinet member for corporate services at Northumberland County Council, said: “The Northumberland Lottery is an excellent way for residents to help local groups and charities in their area.

"
This year, in particular, has been a tremendously difficult year for groups as they have been unable to host many of the normal fundraising events. Playing the Northumberland Lottery allows residents to continue to show their support.

The Lottery has already seen two £250 winners and one £2,000 winner
