Council launches scheme to support taxi drivers in Northumberland

Taxi drivers In Northumberland who have suffered a loss of income due to the impact of COVID-19 restrictions can now apply for a one-off £500 grant. 

Northumberland County Council  is providing  a support scheme for taxi drivers whose trade has been badly affected by coronavirus. 

Cllr Nick Oliver, cabinet member for corporate services at Northumberland County Council said: “Taxis provide a very important service to residents and businesses in our county, and many have been significantly impacted by the implications of coronavirus restrictions. 

“We are trying to support as many businesses facing challenges in the county as we can, and we are pleased to be able to launch this one-off scheme.”

Taxi drivers must be registered with Northumberland County Council and need to provide some limited pieces of information including their driver licence number, bank details and confirmation that they have not received other grant support from the council.
