Residents are reminded that cemetery and burial grounds are still open to visitors.
Inaccurate reports in today’s Berwick Advertiser and Morpeth Herald state the grounds are closed due to Government legislation.
Following published Government guidance, the council sought further clarification and decided that all cemeteries would remain open at this time, listening to and acting on residents' feedback.
A spokesperson for Northumberland County Council said: “It is extremely disappointing this wholly inaccurate information has been reported in two of our weekly papers, as we know the distress it may cause to friends and relatives wishing to visit the graves of their loved ones.
“We want to reassure everyone that at this time all cemeteries are open to visitors, although we would ask anyone coming to the grounds to adhere to social distancing measures at all times.”
