Route marked for Tour of Britain which is just days away

Hundreds of signs are being put up along the streets and roads of Northumberland, with Britain’s biggest cycle race just days away.

Spectators across the region will have the chance to see some of the world’s top riders during the Stage 3 of the 2019 OVO Energy Tour of Britain on Monday September 9 which starts  in Berwick and finishes on Grey Street in Newcastle.

To guide both riders and spectators, almost 400  signs will line sections of the route, which passes through dozens of  communities and is more than 114 miles long.

The North of Tyne Combined Authority has been working hard to bring the Tour to the region and excitement is mounting with just days to go.

A fantastic line-up of WorldTour and Pro Continental teams will be competing in the eight day race which starts in Glasgow on 7 September and finishes in Manchester City Centre on 14 September.

Northumberland County Councillor Cath Homer, cabinet member for arts, leisure, culture and tourism said: “Excitement for the race is really building and it’s great to see the infrastructure now appearing along the route.

“In 2017 the Tour of Britain gave a real boost to the local economy - to the tune of almost £4 milion - and we’re confident this year’s stage will be great news for businesses in Northumberland and the wider region.

“With more than 100,000 people lining the route last time, many from outside the area, as well as international TV coverage in over 100 countries,  it really is a fantastic opportunity for our communities to showcase everything that is great about this county.”

“We are proud to have such a prestigious event here in our county and to play our part in making it happen. ”
