County Council enters into advisory partnership with Tommee Tippee

Mayborn Group, the company behind global mum and baby brand Tommee Tippee, has signed an agreement with Northumberland County Council’s Trading Standards Service to help the company to ensure that the items it sells comply with all the consumer legislation that applies to them.

Through the agreement, known as a Primary Authority Partnership, Mayborn will receive assured and tailored advice from the county council which will assist them in ensuring that the complex products they sell are compliant with consumer law. What’s more, the advice the council provides must be accepted by other regulators across the UK.

Northumberland County Councillor John Riddle, cabinet member with responsibility for trading standards said:

“Joining this scheme means the business can get ongoing, clear and consistent expert advice from one source on specific areas of regulation and be confident they’re staying within the law, protecting their customers and the company.

“We know how complicated much of the law administered by our Public Protection Services is and it is always better for all concerned if we can work with businesses to get things right from the start.

“As we move towards Brexit, the Trading Standards Service will be able to provide advice and support as controls change and will help the business to comply with any new UK law.”

Chris Beeley, Global Head of Quality from the Mayborn Group said:

“By joining a Primary Authority Partnership we benefit from robust and reliable professional advice allowing us to comply with what is often very complex legislation, and focus our efforts on investment and growth.

“We worked with Northumberland County Council’s Trading Standards team when Tommee Tippee was based in Cramlington and having moved to North Tyneside we wanted to maintain the excellent relationship which we have built up over many years.”

This is the first Primary Authority agreement that the council has signed and it is looking for more partnerships to help more businesses in the county to understand their legal obligations and to avoid the pitfalls and costs of non-compliance.
