Pegasus played host to Riding for Disabled qualifier

Pegasus Riding For the Disabled Centre in Morpeth played host to a regional competition which saw over 50 riders compete for a place in the national Riding for the Disabled championships.

And for Morpeth Riding for the Disabled Association it was a very successful day with 14 of their riders qualifying  for the national finals in classes including show jumping, the countryside challenge and dressage.

They will now travel down to the national finals which will be held at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire later in the year.

Northumberland County Councillor Cath Homer, cabinet member with responsibility for leisure said:

“ I was incredibly proud to see the effort and enthusiasm displayed by all those taking part, and all those helping. It was a very special day, full of fun and friendship and where every rider performed to the very best of their ability. ”

Michelle Macauley  from Morpeth Riding for the Disabled said:

“ It was clear just how hard everyone had worked to prepare for the day and despite strong and friendly competition from many other groups in the region,  we are delighted that fourteen of our riders made it through to the national finals which will be held at Hartpury College in July. It was a fantastic result. ”

Active Northumberland  manages leisure services across the county, including The Pegasus Centre in partnership with the The Morpeth Riding For The Disabled Group. This group is  a registered charity that gives people with special needs and disabilities a chance to develop their abilities and enrich their lives through riding specially trained ponies.

Over 300 riders aged between 4 to 67  use the centre each week, travelling from all over the county and even Tyneside to attend.

The RDA Regional Finals are held all over the country in preparation for the National Championships - RDA’s flagship event - which brings together hundreds of competitors of all abilities in events, including carriage driving, countryside challenge, dressage, showjumping, vaulting and showing.
