Morpeth roadworks starting on February 18

Residents are being advised of road improvement works taking place in Morpeth.

As part of Northumberland County Council’s ongoing Local Transport Plan they will be completing carriageway improvement works on the A196 in Morpeth.

A small section will be closed to traffic from Monday 18th February for up to five days, so that the road carriageway can be resurfaced.

This will affect the stretch of road from just east of Broom Close to just outside Hepscott Care Centre.

The road will be closed to through traffic between 8:30am and 4pm, with diversion routes in place.

The alternative route for local traffic will be via the A196, C132 through Hepscott, A192,
A196 and vice versa.

Local residentsand businesses within Coopies Lane Industrial Estate and within the closure have been notified of the work. Access will be maintained where possible during the works.

Councillor Glen Sanderson, Cabinet Member for Environment and Local Services, said: “These works are part of our ongoing improvements to our road network, and while we hope to keep any disruption to a minimum it will mean a short diversion for some drivers for a few days.

“I’d like to thank everyone in advance for their understanding and the work will be done as quickly as possible.”
