What we do

  • Keep children Safe, predominantly with a safeguarding role for children and young people.
  • Assess Need- by placing  parents, children and everyone naturally connected to the child at the centre of the assessment, decision-making and planning through the Signs of Safety approach.
  • If during this assessment it is identified that your child has SEN we can advise, signpost or work with families and other professionals to meet the needs of the child. Our Social Workers contribute towards EHCP for young people and  attend EHCP yearly  reviews.

Social Care SEND Coordinators

The role of a Social Care SEND Coordinator is to contact the parents of children/young person that are going through the process of obtaining an Education Health and Care Plan who are not open to an early help or a social work team.

If a Social Care SEND Coordinator needs to contact you they will gather information about your child's social care needs. This includes asking you about what your child enjoys doing and what barriers (s)he may face accessing activities in the community. They will also ask you what you like to happen for your child in the future.

They will offer advice and signpost you if you feel this would be helpful to the universal and target services that are available Northumberland.
