Data & Business Intelligence Strategy

Our vision for this five-year strategy is: “NCC is all in on data, setting an exemplar approach in local government. NCC harnesses data to improve service delivery for residents, businesses, employees, and visitors.”

What?

Making best use of data will allow Northumberland County Council to understand where we are now, and chart a data driven path into the future.

A corporate data team, in collaboration with data leaders from across the organisation will take responsibility for the delivery of this strategy. They will ensure every part of NCC is harnessing data to achieve our goals, drive decision making and improve outcomes.
 

So what?

Three core principles will guide the work we deliver.

Principle 1 - ENGINEERING: Advance the practice of collecting, storing, and using data.

• NCC will treat data as a high value asset that underpins the work we do and decisions we make.
• Delivering this strategy will make leveraging high-quality data the default. Data will be discoverable, trusted, high quality and enable insightful collaborations and transparent reporting.

Principle 2 - SKILLS: Ensure our people are data literate and skilled.

• Addressing the imbalance in distribution of data skills, NCC will build communities of experts and invest in professional data skills.
• NCC will develop the expertise it needs and use this expertise to advance data literacy throughout the organisation.

Principle 3 - CULTURE: Embed a data driven culture across the organisation.

• An effective data culture is the most important outcome of this strategy. Without it, the ability for the organisation to operate effectively will be diminished.
• NCC will make informed decisions, demonstrating the value of investing in data.

Now What?

The NCC data leadership will turn this strategy into a deliverable roadmap that aligns to each of the core principles. The short-term focus will be on demonstrating value with a small number of achievable goals aligned to NCC service needs.
