Northumberland Homefinder Service

What is Northumberland Homefinder?

Northumberland Homefinder is a new way to find a home in Northumberland.  Our aim is to offer you choice about where you live and the type of house you live in.

The service is a partnership between the council and Housing Providers who work in the Northumberland area.

Northumberland Homefinder aims to provide an open, fair and transparent housing allocations service.  There is now a single housing register for housing provided by the partners in the scheme.

Northumberland’s Common Allocation Policy

The council and its partners have agreed a common allocation policy which means that the way they  allocate their homes will be the same throughout Northumberland. You can view Northumberland's Common Allocation Policy here.

The common policy will replace the local policies that were in place prior to the formation of Northumberland County Council.

How it Works

To be considered for a property you must apply to join the housing register.  You will need to fill in an application form, which can be obtained from any of our offices or you can click here to download a copy.

Once you have completed your form, you should return it to your local partner office.  For their contact details click this link - How to Contact Us

We will use the information you provide in your application to assess your housing need.  We will write to you to confirm that we have accepted your application and tell you which priority band we have assigned you.  We will also provide you with a Housing Register number and a PIN which you will need to apply for properties.

We will advertise all of the properties that we have available.  Once you are registered, you can find out about the properties available on our website, at our offices, from Council Information Centres and at other locations such as libraries and Citizens Advice Bureaux.  We also advertise properties on our automated telephone line on 0845 60 66 546.  Available properties will be advertised from 00:01 on a Thursday until 23:59 the following Monday.

If you see a property you would like to be considered for you will need to "bid".  To bid you will need to be registered with our service.  You can place a bid via the website or any of the locations listed above.  Bids can only be placed from 00:01 on a Thursday until 23:59 the following Monday.  You can also place a bid by calling 0845 270 1977.

If you have any queries about your application, or how the service works, you should contact your local office.
