What's Happening in Northumberland Libraries

There is always lots going on in Northumberland Libraries. We hold a variety of events throughout the year, including children and adult craft activities, family history events, author talks and much more.

Northumberlandia Storytelling Competition

NorthumberlandiaNorthumberland Libraries are collaborating with North East company Shoofly Publishing on an exciting opportunity for a budding author to see their work published as an e-book. We are running a storytelling competition for stories between 250 and 1000 words.

The theme of the story is ‘Northumberlandia: A New Legend’, inspired around the amazing public art piece, Northumberlandia. We would like you to create a new legend, answering some questions about her: ‘Who was Northumberlandia?’, ‘Where did she come from’, and ‘What happened to her?’

The competition is open to all ages and there are four categories: Under 7, 8-11 years, 12-18 years, and over 18s.

The winning story from each category will be made available online via libraries, cultural venues and schools across Northumberland and the overall winner will have their story made into an e-book . To see an example of what your e-book could look like, have a look at Shoofly’s website.

Your entry will be judged by a panel including local authors and the winner will be announced on 4th May 2015. The e-book will be launched on 6th July 2015.

Entries to this competition are now closed.
