Council launches annual canvass to update electoral register

Northumberland County Council is encouraging residents to ensure they are on the electoral register, as the council kicks off its annual canvass. This effort is crucial for safeguarding everyone's right to vote.

The council uses the information gathered to invite unregistered residents to register and to update records for those who have moved away. Residential properties will be contacted in phases, so not all addresses will receive communications simultaneously. Residents may be contacted via email or by post, with clear instruction on providing information.

If we have your email and you are already a registered elector, you may receive a notification from:

northumberland.county.council.electoral.services@notifications.service.gov.uk

The email will be titled “Is the electoral registration information correct for your address?” and will include a unique two-part security code.

If you have any concerns about the legitimacy of these emails, please contact Electoral Services at 01670 624844 or elections@northumberland.gov.uk

A response is required, even if there are no changes to your household's details. If multiple people at your property receive this communication, only one response per household is necessary. Prompt responses will help avoid follow-up letters.

When new names are provided, an Invitation to Register form will be sent by post or email to the individual. These names will not be included in the electoral register until the individual has successfully completed the registration process.
