Wind warning

Storm support continues for residents in Northumberland

The Council is continuing to support residents affected by Storm Isha.

Teams are also on standby for the next weather system – Storm Jocelyn – which brings with it a Yellow Warning for wind from 4pm today Tuesday, January 23rd.

The Council and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service responded to various impacts from the storm, from trees down in parts of the county to surface water flooding in a small number of properties – including Otterburn Mill and Kielder.

Over 6,000 Northumberland properties were also left without power and teams are liaising with Nothern PowerGrid and Scottish Power Energy Networks to ensure power is restored as soon as possible.

This morning, around 500 properties remained without power, but all are expected have their power restored today.

The council has worked closely with Nothern PowerGrid and Scottish Power Energy Networks to ensure that all vulnerable residents affected have been contacted and offered support.

Northumberland’s network of warm spaces are also open to anyone in need of a warm welcome.

Council Leader Glen Sanderson said: “I firstly want to thank all the staff who have worked 24/7 supporting residents and keeping the county moving.

“The weather looks like it is about to take another turn for the worse, and our teams are on standby to respond as required.
“We’d also encourage people to keep checking on their friends, families and neighbours as agencies work to restore all affected services.”
