Congratulations to all our young people who are receiving their results today.

Students across the county are finding out their GCSE and equivalent vocational results.

There were celebrations at Haydon Bridge High School this morning as students headed to school to collect their results, with the vast majority now going on to their first choice destination.

The fantastic results from students also mean a record number will stay on to study A Levels in the sixth form.

Opening her results alongside her family, Hannah, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled, I can’t believe it. I’m really happy with my maths, I thought I was going to fail but I got a seven. I’m doing A levels biology, chemistry and sociology and I hope to be a doctor.

I’ve been in Borneo this summer doing charity work and just got back, so it’s amazing to come back to this. I’m really pleased.”

Shayla, was also delighted with her results, she said: “I got a 7, distinction, three 8s and two 9s. I want to do A levels at Haydon Bridge and do law at uni.

I was really nervous and scared and didn’t know what I was going to get. It was hard to learn after lockdown, so I think I feel proud of how we’ve all done.”

James was among the Year 10 students who also sat their GCSEs this year. He said: “I’m very happy with a 7 in history and a 7 in French. Next year I’m going to do business and engineering and hope to repeat the results. I don’t know what I want to do yet, but just want to get as many qualifications as possible.”

Headteacher, David Nisbet, said: “The results have been great and I’m really proud of every student and of all our staff too.

"The vast majority of students have achieved the grades required to allow them to continue with their chosen route of study beyond Year 11.

"Our Year 12 cohort will be the biggest we have seen at Haydon Bridge in many years, with students opting for a wide range of traditional A Levels, BTEC courses such as Business, Engineering and Applied Science and vocational courses such as Catering, Hair and Beauty and Construction.

That’s great as we know them really well and we want to see them continue to thrive here with us.

We’ve got a bit of an unusual situation where our Year 10s do some of their exams a year early and they’ve done really well, so we’re  pleased that they’ve bagged some GCSEs already.

“It’s also been great to see their confidence return after COVID, these students were in Year 7 at the start of lockdown and they deserve credit for the resilience they have shown over the last few years and I think there is a sense that normality is returning.”

Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Inspiring Young People, said: “Well done to our Northumberland students who are receiving their results today. Whatever the grades, it’s a moment to be proud of all you’ve achieved.

“I also want to thank our teachers and school staff who work so hard every day to inspire our young people so that they shine and reach their potential.

“We are very proud that 93.9% of our schools in Northumberland are either good or outstanding – higher than the national average. We continue to invest in our excellent school improvement team and in new and refurbished education facilities to make sure they get better and better.

“School is about much more than just exams, it’s about discovering your unique talents and strengths, learning valuable life skills, and building resilience, care and compassion that will serve you far beyond the classroom.

“These results today are just one step on your journey as you find the path that’s right for you.

“Northumberland is a land of great opportunities with a growing green energy sector and a wealth of industries shaping the future.

“What matters most is that you keep embracing the opportunities to learn and grow, believe in yourselves and remember there are lots of people here to support you.”

We will be updating this page throughout the day to bring you the latest results from across the county.
