Cost of living support for families continues in half term

Families across Northumberland are once again set to receive extra support during the school holidays.

Northumberland County Council is making the support available to families who receive free school meals and will see £20 vouchers issued for the February half-term.

The scheme is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions’ Household Support Fund in order to help families access food and other essential supplies.

It is just part of the wide range of cost-of-living support available in the county which is seeing the council work closely with other public services and the voluntary and community sector to provide bespoke support to those who need it.

Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Children’s Services, said: “We know the rising cost of living is adding to the pressures on families and we are committed to supporting those across our county who need it most.

"Through working together with our public sector partners and a wide range of wonderful grassroots organisations, we’re able to ensure this money is getting to where it needs to be.

Plans are also underway for the next installments of our brilliant Holiday Activities and Food programme which will give hundreds of young people the chance to make memories and enjoy nutritious food over the Easter and Summer holidays.

“Our compassionate team at Northumberland Communities Together (NCT) are here to offer support and advice to anyone who needs it.  If you are struggling, please get in touch."

Cost-of-living support is available for all Northumberland residents, providing trusted advice and information, helping with the financial support available and bringing people together in their local communities to stay warm and well this winter.
