Congratulations to all our young people who are receiving their results today.

Students across the county are finding out their AS level, A level, T Level and BTEC results as they prepare to take their next steps into further education or the world of work.

Councillor Guy Renner-Thompson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Inspiring Young People, said: “Congratulations to all our students in Northumberland, everyone should be very proud of the grades they’ve achieved.

As well as hard work and commitment – they have also shown great resilience, as for many, this year was the first time they had sat formal exams as GCSEs did not go ahead as normal during the pandemic.

Today is an exciting milestone in their education journey as they move forward to take up new opportunities and I wish all students the best of luck for the future whatever path they take.

"I would also like to thank Northumberland’s brilliant staff in schools and colleges for their hard work and dedication to making sure all our young people reach their full potential.”

There were celebrations at the Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham this morning as students headed to school to collect their results

Maisie Saunders, gained a full house with A*s in Physics, Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry. She said: “It’s all very weird, I can’t process it. I’m going to do Physics at Oxford University. I’m excited, but a bit scared but I think I’ll feel better once the results settle in.

I love learning about the world and I wanted to do Physics and hope to go on to do a PHD and maybe go into science communication or research.”

Becky Beard had also come in to celebrate her results with friends. She said: “I am very happy with the results I got. I am glad I got to physically come into school today as we just got an email for our GCSEs so this is really fulfilling.

I’m doing an Art Foundation at Newcastle College and the future holds a lot of options so I’m excited.”

Head of School, Neil Seaton, said: “We are incrediblly proud of what our students have achieved and I’m delighted to welcome them into school to get their results.

It’s really important to remember with this group of students - the impact the pandemic has had on their experience of education. This is the first set of formal exams they have sat and it’s important to acknowledge the hard work they’ve put into their exams and that their teachers have put into the exams and we’re excited to see them get the outcomes of all those efforts.

Our students go onto a range of different places – from universities to employment, apprenticeships and further education colleges. Many are heading off on gap years too. What’s really good about today is seeing that the grades that they’ve secured will give them the opportunity to move onto whatever their ambtions are in life.”

We will be updating this page throughout the day to bring you the latest results from across the county.
