Northumberland’s Stepping into Spring Roadshow

The first of a series of Ageing Well free events for older people is set to take place in Choppington, Northumberland on Friday 6 May 2022, from 10am to noon.

The event gives residents a chance to meet local organisations offering advice and information on staying well and keeping active.

Northumberland County Councillor Wendy Pattison, cabinet member for Adult Wellbeing, said: “This is a great opportunity for older people in the community to come along for a cuppa and have a chat about local events and activities, volunteering opportunities and how to keep fit and healthy.”

Organisations will be on hand at the event to help residents discover more about staying active, looking after their wellbeing, as well as local activities and volunteering opportunities that are happening in their area.

Liz Morgan, Northumberland’s Director of Public Health, said: “There are many benefits to helping people to stay active, connected and well.

“We know, for example that regular exercise significantly lowers your risk of diseases such as heart disease and cancer, and helps you retain your mobility for longer. Whilst meaningful relationships and a strong social network improve mental and physical well-being.

“Our Ageing Well programme uses a positive partnership approach.  By working with local partners who are in regular contact with older people, their carers or families, we can make sure that together we provide the support to become or sustain being more active, better connected and well.’

The Stepping into Spring event will take place at: Stakeford and Bomarsund Sports and Welfare Centre, Gordon Terrace West, Choppington, Northumberland NE62 5UD

Booking is essential – Light refreshments will be provided. Those wishing to attend can book a place by calling: 01670 858664, or emailing: choppingtondisabilitygroup@gmail.com

Events are also being planned to take place in Cramlington and Powburn later in May.
