Overdose Awareness Day is on 31 August

Raising awareness in Northumberland on Overdose

International Overdose Awareness Day takes place on 31 August 2022 and Northumberland County Council's commissioned service will be helping people learn more about the issue. 

On the 31st the Northumberland Recovery Partnership, is hosting an open day at the Recovery Centre, Freehold St, Blyth, from 10:00am to 3:30pm, to allow information to be shared on how to prevent or reverse an overdose. 

The world’s annual campaign to end overdose, remembers without stigma those who have died, and acknowledges the grief of the family and friends left behind. 

Councillor Catherine Seymour, Northumberland County Council’s Mental Health Champion, said: “Deaths as a result of drug overdose are preventable and supporting this campaign allows us to highlight action that can be taken reduce harm and save lives. 

“By raising awareness of overdose, which is one of the world’s worst public health crises, we can start the conversation about overdose prevention.   

“I would encourage anyone who is feeling overwhelmed to please reach out to someone.”   

International Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message about the tragedy of drug overdose death and that drug overdose is preventable.
