Gadgeteers Winter Mini Challenge

Libraries across Northumberland are running a Winter Reading Challenge and the fun starts on Thursday 1 December

The 2022 Winter Mini Challenge sees The Reading Agency in partnership again with Science Museum Group. The Summer Reading Challenge 2022 saw thousands of children reading and exploring science and innovation as part of this year’s Gadgeteers theme. Now that it’s getting chilly and the winter holidays are approaching, they’re back with even more fun experiments and reading encouragement. Children can join the Gadgeteers as they use their ingenuity and creativity to keep everyone entertained during a snowstorm. Get ready for cool do-it-at-home experiments and learn along the way as they read for pleasure with the Winter Mini Challenge!

The Winter Mini Challenge encourages children to keep reading through the cold, winter holidays and this year children will be able to catch-up with the Gadgeteer friends they met during this year’s Summer Reading Challenge!

To take part, children simply read three books or more of their choice. Every time they finish a book, they add it to their Challenge website profile and leave a short book review. Reaching their online reading goal will unlock a special virtual badge and a new wintry Gadgeteers certificate to print off and keep. There are also fun activities, videos, reading recommendations, plus an exciting competition!

In addition, children can collect a special ticket every time they visit the library to take part in the Winter Mini Challenge, to borrow a book, or when they introduce a friend to the library for the first time.

Tickets are posted in a Christmas post box and a winner will be drawn at the end of the Challenge to win a prize - the more visits, the more chances to win!

Libraries are also running lots of great events to keep children entertained during the Christmas holidays. Stories and Craft sessions will be taking place at libraries across the County.  Please visit our Eventbrite page to find out more.

Children can join the Winter Mini Challenge by visiting the website by clicking here from 1 December 2022 and start rating and reviewing their books and enjoying the online activities.
