Illuminated Sheep Author Event - Max Adams
Thurs 1 Dec, 7pm at Morpeth Library
The Lindisfarne Gospels are infused with rich traditions - with an exuberant Irish spirit; with the wellspring of Christian tradition crossed with the mythical beasts of the Anglo-Saxon imagination; with the royal patronage of Northumbrian kings and the ghost of its greatest saint - but also with the wealth of the land: the vellum and ink, the dyes and quills and the decade of skilled labour that produced it. In this talk, to accompany the temporary restoration of the Gospels to their native North-east, Max Adams, author of The King in the North, explores the Gospels as a key to understanding the land that produced them. Tickets cost £7.
